City MP Stewart Jackson has welcomed a further drop in Peterborough’s unemployment figures, announced earlier today.
The number of Jobseeker’s Allowance claimants in the Peterborough constituency in September 2014 was 2,160. This represents a rate of 3.8% of the economically active population aged 16 to 64. The number of claimants is 1591 lower than in September 2013 and 242 lower than in August 2014.
Stewart Jackson said:
“I am delighted that the unemployment rates have dropped again. It is fantastic news for people across Peterborough.
I appreciate it is still a hard time for all families, but thanks to the Government’s relentless focus on economic policy, the results are starting to appear. This is the lowest unemployment rate site the economic crisis in 2008.
The Conservative-led Government will continue to pursue the benefits of economic growth to create jobs, support aspiration and develop a strong and sustainable economy.”
