Stewart Jackson, MP for Peterborough has welcomed the announcement by the Secretary of State for Health, the Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt MP, that Peterborough and Stamford NHS Hospital Trust will receive some bonus funding.
In a Written Ministerial Statement on NHS Winter Planning it was announced that Peterborough would receive an extra £5,050,000 to help with seasonal pressures.
This comes in addition to a long term plan by the Health Secretary to deal with the pressures on A&E such as having a named GP accountable for care, investment in new technology to ensure patient records are shared between hospitals and family doctors and more money for social care.
Stewart Jackson said:
“Last December, I spent several hours from 11pm on a Friday night in the Accident and Emergency Department at Peterborough City Hospital. I thought it was very important to see firsthand the problems presented by my constituents and I see how much of a strain is put on our services at this time of year. I welcome this extra support for Peterborough.
I do hope this funding makes a real difference for my constituents and it will be very welcome at the hospital.”
