Peterborough’s MP Stewart Jackson has welcomed the independent inquiry, led by former High Court Judge Sir Gordon Langley which makes recommendations for Royal Mail in order to tackle the increase in dog attacks on their postmen and women.
The report recommends that a tougher approach to dog attacks is taken by Royal Mail including suspension of delivery where dog attacks occur and actively pursuing legal action against owners of dangerous dogs.
Stewart Jackson said:
“I was shocked to hear that over 3000 postmen and women were attacked in the UK over the course of a year. Even more so that this included 81 who were attacked across the PE postcode area.”
“Royal Mail provides an invaluable service to my constituents in Peterborough. They work through bad weather with enormous workloads during the run up to Christmas but their staff shouldn’t be put at risk of dog attacks when out delivering.”
