Stewart Jackson MP wants to draw to the attention of Peterborough Second World War veterans and their widows that they can apply for a grant from the Big Lottery Fund to make commemorative trips back to places across the world where they served.
The scheme is open for trips having to be made by the end of 2010 (grants can be awarded retrospectively until 31st January 2011). The grants are available for the travel and accommodation costs of veterans or their widows, along with spouses and a carer.
To date, over £7.3 million has been awarded across the UK, allowing more than 10,800 people to go on the commemorative trips. Veterans have used the grants to return to places including Italy, France, Greece, Holland, Germany, USA, the Far East and Australia, as well as to make trips within the UK.
Details about the scheme and how to apply are available by calling 0845 00 00 121 or visiting www.biglotteryfund.org.uk/heroesreturn

“This is an excellent opportunity offered to veterans by the Big Lottery Fund and I would encourage people to apply. I want to ensure as many people as possible take advantage of the Lottery’s Heroes Return 2 scheme before it closes.”
