Stewart Jackson MP has welcomed employment in the UK being at its highest rate since records began; with 31.84 million people in work and unemployment at its lowest rate for eleven years.
Employment is up 302,000 over the past year and up 2.7 million since 2010, whilst unemployment is down 97,000 over the past year and down 906,000 since 2010. The figure for women in employment has reached a record high rate of 70 per cent and youth unemployment is at 12.6 per cent – the lowest since 2005.
The unemployment figure for Peterborough has fallen by a further 3% since January 2016 and is 72% lower since January 2010.
“In response to our ongoing welfare reforms will continue to incentivise work and make sure the system is fair to all those who need it and those who pay for it. With youth unemployment down, the number of women in work at record levels and the number of disabled people in work increasing too, this Government is committed to building a country that works for everyone.
We have made real progress in creating a strong economy nationally in the UK and locally in Peterborough, helping more people into work, and will do what is needed to continue on that path.”
